GANESHOTSAV 2016



Ganeshotsav is one of the most anticipated festivals of Podar college and this year it was celebrated with even more enthusiasm on the 5th and 6th of September 2016.

The theme Ganeshotsav 2016 focused on the pandharpur wari, the culture of saints and positive aspect of the farmers’ life. From the set up to the food this year’s Ganeshotsav had the essence of wari and simple Marathi culture in imbibe in everything.

The much awaited ‘Ganesh Aagman’ took place at 9am on the 5th of September, 2016 in the traditional pandharpur wari. The ‘Sthapana’ and ‘Puja’ were performed by the Pandit. Devotees including ex-students, residents from the vicinity and distant areas as well came to seek blessings of the lord. The day concluded with evening prayers.

The second day morning prayers were followed by the cultural programme which included singing, instrumental music and duet, group & traditional dance performances by the junior and degree college students.PrincipalDr. Shobana Vasudevan performed the ‘Maha-aarti’. The ‘Maha-prasad’ was offered to the devotees who were present for the occasion.

Then came the time to say good bye to Lord Ganesh. The final procession was accompanied by dhol, dance. The ‘visarjan’ took place in an eco-friendly pond at the Mayor’s bungalow. The most awaited and loved festival of Mumbai ended on a high note.

Through the hard work and efforts of the volunteers this year Ganeshotsav was also celebrated in a grand yet eco-friendly way.

Initiative of the year was to Depict the Maharashtra’s pandharpur warkari culture. Make the event completely theme based .Make the festival grand and the decoration completely eco-friendly.

“Podar Ganeshotsav”,the most awaited tradition was celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm. This year it was observed on the 17th and 18th of September, 2015.

Ganeshotsav 2015 emphasized not only on culture and tradition but also on the enriched history of Marathas. Accordingly, the theme ‘Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ depicted the era of the Indian Warrior. Volunteers worked from as early as July to make this concept a reality. Prof-in-charge Mr. Mahesh Deshpande sir with his students committee were all set under the guidance of our Principal Dr. Mrs. Shobana Vasudevan.Team spirit and coordination was the essence when people worked together to make this a memorable festival. Suitable decorations and necessary arrangements were made, and thus, the team was geared up for the arrival of Lord Ganesha.

Devotees including ex-students, residents from the vicinity and distant areas as well came to seek blessings of the lord. The day concluded with evening prayers.

Professor ‘Sahuraja’, former principal of our college was invited as the honourable chief guest for this religious event. All the teachers were welcomed and presented with flowers as a token of appreciation. The programme was cherished by everyone in the presence of the jovial chief guest.Principal Dr. Shobana Vasudevan performed the ‘Maha-aarti’. The ‘Maha-prasad’ was offered to the devotees who were present for the occasion.

Activities Conducted during 2013-14

Accordingly, the theme ‘Global Warming-ECOFRIENDLY’ was chosen as it is a highly concerned social matter. Volunteers worked from as early as July to make this concept a reality. Prof-in-charge Mr. Mahesh Despande sir with his students committee were all set under the guidance of our Principal Dr. Mrs. Shobana Vasudevan. Team spirit and coordination was the essence when people worked together to make this a memorable festival.
