GYMKHANA REPORT

This year proved out to be no exception for our College, as our students performed remarkably well in different sports maintaining the status that our College has achieved in past 74 years.

This year our College had the honour of successfully hosting two inter collegiate sports events in association with the Sports Department of University of Mumbai. The Women’s Volley ball Tournament was organized between 26th October and 28st October 2015 on College playground. Around 12 Colleges from the University participated in the Tournament. The Judo Tournament for Men and Women was organized on 8nd December 2015 in the College Auditorium. About 100 players from different 25Colleges participated in the Tournament. The Annual Athletic Meet was organized on 9th January 2016 at St. Xavier Ground, Parel. In association with the IQAC of College the College gymkhana organized a lecture by Ms. Rujuta Diwekar, the celebrated dietician, especially for sports students.

In inter collegiate sports events; over 350 Junior College and Degree College students represented College in different sports activities.

In 2015-16 8 students played Nationals, 10 students played at State level, 17 students represented Mumbai University in their respective sports and 11 students represented Mumbai Cricket Association Tournaments. The Junior College students performed exceptionally well in D.S.O tournaments bagging 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal while Degree College students secured 12 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals representing the College in individual events. In team events Junior College students won 3 championships at Intercollegiate DSO tournaments, secured 3 runners ups titles in Intercollegiate DSO tournaments and 3 runners ups titles in Inter district DSO tournaments. In team events Degree College students won 4 championships, secured 2 runners up titles and bagged 4 places at third positions.

In individual events the Junior College students secured Gold Medals as under:

The Outstanding Performers of the year:

1. Akshaya Iyer:
• Secured 1 Gold Medals at the Inter Collegiate Athletic Meet.
• Secured 3 Gold Medals and 2 Bronze Medals at Junior Maharashtra State Athletic Meet.
• Secured 1 Gold and 1 Bronze Medal at Senior Maharashtra State Athletic Meet.
• Selected for Inter-University Athletics Meet.

2. Jay Pradhan:
• Won Gold Medal for R.A. Podar at Inter-Zonal University Chess Championship 2015.
• Won Gold Medal for R.A.Podar at Zonal Chess Championship 2015.

3. Gaurang Ambre :
• 2 Gold and Silver Medal in Inter College Mumbai University Athletic Meet.
• Gold and Silver Medal in Maharashtra State Annual Athletic Meet.
• Participated in All India Inter University, Punjab.

4. Dhanashree Kanitkar :
• Selected to represent the Mumbai University at Inter-University Kreeda Mahotsav, at Nanded.
• Selected to represent the Mumbai University at All India Inter University Volleyball Tournament.

2 Students from the College were selected to represent the Mumbai Cricket Association each at U/19 tournaments and U/16 tournaments.

3) Akshaya Ganesh Iyer(SYBMS ) Senior College
Secured the 1st place in 100 M. Run, 200M. Run, 400M. Run & Long Jumpand 3rd place in 4X100 M. Relay at the Annual Athletic Meet.

4) Prathmesh V. Ghogale(FYBCom. ) Senior College
Secured the 1stplace in 100 M. Run, 200M. Run, Long Jump& 4X100 M. Relay at the Annual Athletic Meet.
The Salvi Cup was awarded to Prathmesh V.Ghogale
Vishal Vora Trophy for the best Chess Player was awarded to Jay Pradhan.

Sohani Trophy for the Best Tennis Player of the year was awarded to KunalPansare.
Major Vishwanathan Trophy for the Best Batsmanof the year was awarded to Pranav Menon.
Late Kaustubh Joshi Trophy for the maximum numberof Half Centuries was awarded to BhupenLalwani.
Ghulam Shaikh Trophy and Welingkar Prize for Best Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to GaurangAmbre.
