Activities Planned for 2016-17:
  • Career Seminar

Activities conducted during the year 2015-16:

1. Event Name- Panorama,2015- the Career Fair. Widening your career horizons and Launching of Milestones, the Career Magazine.
Date- 13th August, 2015.
Venue- College Auditorium and G1, the seminar hall.
Event Description- In continuing its commitment towards enlightening students about innumerable career opportunities, the Career Guidance Forum conducted a career fair on the 13th of August, 2015. The fair was accompanied by the launch of our in house career publication, the Milestones in English as well as Marathi by the guest of honor, Mr. Arnab Goswami.
Milestones was launched for the 5th Edition in English and the very 1st edition in Marathi. What went behind was months of dedicated efforts and dedication by the entire team. All efforts seemed justified when we saw how the magazine would guide an innumerable number of students in taking informed decisions into their career.
The event began with the lighting up of the lamp by the Principal,Dr. Mrs. Shobhana Vasudevan, the Guest of Honor Mr. Arnab Goswami and Chairperson Mrs. Leena Ramani. Principal ma’am gave a speech firing up the motivation in us to work harder followed by a few words of inspiration from the chairperson. Then came an effervescent and intriguing speech by none other than Mr. Arnab Goswami.
His life instances gave us a feel into what actually happens behind the news readers’ presentation of a news. We cannot remain isolated of what we do, an evergreen lesson made quite evident from his life. All our efforts seemed worth it just by hearing this nation’s representative speak before college students. He gave students an opportunity to interact and answered each and every question posed at him. Thus we got to know about journalism as a career and its dos and don’ts.
Following this began the Career Fair. Eminent speakers from various walks of life were called to guide the students. Guest lectures ranged from careers with BSE to careers in import and export business. Seminars were being delivered in two simultaneous rooms both of which were jam packed.
The fair had career kiosks put up. The students got to attend seminars as well as move around and approach the people in different kiosks who would interact with them, provide them insights and solve their queries. The kiosks were put up for career like Hotel management, Careers in BSE, Career in Management by S.P.Jain Institute of Management, Careers in Travelling and Tourism, Jobs in the Banking Field and in civil services and for careers in cosmetology.
Students got a first hand explanation of things and got their doubts cleared.Milestones the Career Magazine were sold to the students at nominal prices. The event saw around 500 students entering the fair with doubts and question marks in their minds, but left with clarity and sapience about what they would like to do in their lives.
The career fair was also attended by the students of IES schools. It was a great sight to see these young minds light up by seeing that the future ahead is not just limited to cliché careers but with an equivalent opportunity for out of the box careers. School students were the most to benefit since their minds are like wet mud which needs to be molded into a vessel.

2. Activity Name- Revision of Milestones, the Career Magazine and launching it for the first time in Marathi.
Time Period- Spread over the year 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Activity Description- The Career Guidance Forum comes out with its own in house career magazine called Milestones. This magazine attempts to provide the students with a detailed analysis of each career option they might want to choose. The magazine is divided into career categories like careers in management, law or out of the box careers. We attempted to gather as much information as possible like the fees structure, educational qualification required to be eligible for the course, major employers in the industry, institutions which offer these courses, etc.
Thus the work began with going through the entire previous edition of the magazine. We had registered volunteers willing to work for this revision of magazines. We divided ourselves amongst teams and each team was allocated different career categories. Extensive research from various literature available and official websites of the concerned courses was carried out. We started compiling the data into one text and then began the proofreading of the magazine before printing. Simultaneously translation of the content to Marathi was also carried out.

For all the costs to be incurred for printing as well as outlays needed to conduct Panorama 2015, we made a complete budget. For sourcing the funds we started selling advertisement slots in the magazine. The marketing was done by physical visits to the prospective advertiser and explaining him the various benefits that would accrue to him.
Thus we printed 2000 copies, 1000 in English and 1000 in Marathi. The fresh batch of Milestones was released at Panorama 2015 by the hands of Mr. Arnab Goswami.
We then started distributing 100 copies of Milestones in English as well as in Marathi to various schools and colleges so as to be kept in their libraries for students’ reference. This was done free of cost. Thus we attempted to compile information available from various sources into a readily available resource.

3. Seminar on- Certified Management Accounting
Date- 12th September, 2015.
Classroom- S3
Description- The seminar was attended by over 60 students from Junior as well as Degree college. The speakers at the seminar were professors from Concorde Academy who gave training in the said courses. They highlighted the soft as well as technical skills required by an individual to be a part of this course. They also shared their practical insights about what they have observed about the entrance exams. A few numericals were also solved so as to give a feel of ho the entrance and further exams would be like.

The seminar covered-
   • Exam conducted by IMA (USA),which is an equivalent of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants in India (ICMA).
   • Presentation also covered CPA (USA).
   • Eligibility to obtain membership of ICMA under the recognition agreement between the Institutes.

Following the speech by the speaker there was a question answer session whereby all doubts of the students were cleared. A small talk was also conducted on CPA as a seminar since various Chartered Accountancy pursuing students are interested in choosing this course. All the students left with ample information so that if they choose to pursue this course as a career, what is it that they must expect and what they must do.
Thus the Career Guidance Forum continued its commitment towards guiding the students in making the most crucial decision of their life.
